Marketplace
Ministry
In our last newsletter we presented an article explaining that God has opened a door for us to minister where His people are, in the market place. This new form of ministry is trying and challenging but it comes with great rewards. We have been moved out of our comfort zone (read the church), into an area that you don’t always know what the response is going to be when you are ministering Jesus.
Two weeks ago I got to witness first hand the impact of our marketplace ministry and the results truly were rewarding. My schedule had allowed me to meet the staff of Covenant Corporation late one afternoon as they were closing out their day at one of their clients. First of all, I need to inform you that one of the major staff members for Covenant Corporation is the Prayer Intercessor. The major duties of the intercessor for the company is to pray, that’s the major and only duties, pray. On this particular after-noon Ginny had taken Pat Findley, the Corporate Intercessor, to meet some of the clients.
When I connected with them late in the day Pat was taking prayer requests from the staff at one of Covenant’s clients. She had already prayed over each business they had visited that day and had a list of prayer needs many others had given her. “Meet them at the place of their need”, that’s the instructions for our marketplace ministry. How rewarding, each stop for the Covenant staff had produced prayer request of all types. The ministry team looked a lot like business women, they just opened their briefcases and hearts at the same time and minister Jesus to people right at their workplace. I was duly impressed. I could stand in the pulpit till the cows come home and have never seen one of these individuals at church. Through the marketplace ministry each person got to see a little bit of Jesus that day. The phone rang at the company the other day, it was one of Covenant’s clients. They didn’t want to order anything, they wanted to give a prayer request to Pat Findley. Sometimes you just have to trust that God is leading you in the right direction even when it doesn’t look like you expect it to. This ministry sure doesn’t look like church, but the reality of the situation is that the Pat Findley’s of the world are the church.
If you’re called to be an intercessor check the classifieds for a job. What, no listings for a company intercessor? Just wait, change is coming.
